Our story

Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support aims to provide support for everyone living with and beyond cancer. We offer regular friendly meetings both in Axminster and Lyme Regis so support and information can be accessed locally.

There are a variety of services available from creative activities, holistic therapies, relevant diet and lifestyle information, different exercise classes all for anyone affected by any cancer. We offer mutual support, helping people cope with the fear, anxiety, isolation or stress that cancer can bring by providing a chance to unwind over a cup of tea. We are able to offer different options for coping strategies, both locally, slightly further afield and various websites and apps which might be beneficial.

There is currently no cancer care centre in West Dorset/East Devon to help people living with cancer, beyond cancer and their loved ones; we aim to help you take back control of your health and wellbeing. We have near to us excellent support from The Living Tree, Bridport, Force in Exeter and The Penny Brohn Centre in Bristol. There are also excellent cancer specific support groups, usually supported by Clinical Nurse Specialists, further details are available here.

For details of events coming up please see our calendar . Our drop in sessions are informal and you can come for as long or a little as you would like anytime during the session… the kettle is always on!

Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support was set up in June 2018 by Mary Kahn and a team of local people all wanting to invest their time to provide a support for those affected by cancer. You can read more about us here. We have been supported initially by a start-up grant from Macmillan and are working closely with Lyme Forward. We were granted charity status in January 2019.

If you would like to help us we always need volunteers to meet and greet, help with fund raising, therapists plus more so please contact us if you are able to offer your time.
