Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support December 2024 Hello from Donna and welcome to December, I am…
Newsletter No.55 – March 2023
Hello from Donna for this months newsletter report. The clocks have changes, the spring flowers are out and the nights are lighter which are all positives. I am sure many of your are eager to get into the garden, we did have a lot of rain and showers in March, hoping for a dryer April for everyone.
I have just received my new lanyard for 4 years of volunteering. We have more volunteers joining the team and we recently had a volunteer and professional partner training session at Dower House Hotel where we all had catch up and conversations on our topic. Drop-in numbers have increased this year and its nice to sit back and see people connecting and having conversations over a cuppa and some fruit or biscuit. Please remember that drop-in locations still alternate when we have bank holidays so please do check the information below or the website for the locations.

Beverley trained with the Academy of Yoga Bath and is qualified in Hatha, Yoga for Menopause, Art of Adjustments and Paddleboard Yoga. Her 1-2-1 classes are run from her home studio in Lyme Regis and are designed specifically for your needs, we meet prior to your first session to discuss your aims and ability. In Memory of Matt Lyme Regis Bike and Trike Night.
In December 2021 my son Matthew passed away after a long and arduous battle with cancer aged just 30.
Matthew was an avid motor bike rider owning many motorcycles in his time including his beloved Harley.
I had wanted to find a way to raise funds for two local charities who helped Matthew, his little family and myself in those dark days and when the idea of a weekly summer evening bike/trike meet was thought of I knew this was the most appropriate way to do it, and I know it would most definitely have Matthews seal of approval.
The two charities are:-
ALCS (Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support) who aim to provide support for anyone living with and beyond cancer in our community including family, relatives and carers.
Arc (Axminster Recovery through Counciling) who provide easily accessible local counciling and psychotherapy at the heart of the community.
Whether it’s on two wheels, three wheels or on foot we look forward to meeting you.
A weekly Bike/Trike night fundraiser, 5th April (Wednesday) until October.
6 pm till 8.30 pm Lyme Regis Football Club.

Metal Embossing Workshop
Metal embossing is created using simple hand tools as if they were a pencil, pressing a design into a thin sheet of metal which can range from pewter and brass to copper and aluminium.
Different surface treatments can add to the depth, texture and or colour of the design.
Once the metal is embossed you can frame your work of art or apply it to a wide variety of surfaces.
It’s an incredibly relaxing craft that doesn’t take up too much space so you can easily continue it at home!
Please note – Information about the workshop/course will be sent out a week before the event.
Confirmation of the course will happen shortly after booking.

The Enkindled Spring – BY D. H. LAWRENCE
This spring as it comes bursts up in bonfires green,
Wild puffing of emerald trees, and flame-filled bushes,
Thorn-blossom lifting in wreaths of smoke between
Where the wood fumes up and the watery, flickering rushes.
I am amazed at this spring, this conflagration
Of green fires lit on the soil of the earth, this blaze
Of growing, and sparks that puff in wild gyration,
Faces of people streaming across my gaze.
And I, what fountain of fire am I among
This leaping combustion of spring? My spirit is tossed
About like a shadow buffeted in the throng
Of flames, a shadow that’s gone astray, and is lost.

Do look out for beach hut last minute dates on Facebook and the ALCS WhatsApp group going forward. Please send a text or WhatsApp to 07512 279663 to be added if you are an existing client.
The new booking system has been designed to give priority to those going through treatment or recently finished. The aim is also to try and relieve some of the admin work that goes into managing the hut and the confirmation and information is sent within the Eventbrite ticket.
