Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support December 2024 Hello from Donna and welcome to December, I am…
Newsletter No.60 – August 2023
In true style I must start this newsletter by mentioning the weather! Every time the sun has shone this month it has felt special, but since when does August be a month of mainly cloud and grey! Thankfully we are blessed to live in this beautiful part of the world where late autumnal sunny days are hopefully just around the corner!
It is a very busy time for ALCS, we are seeing a huge increase in those being diagnosed and with the pressures within the NHS system it feels our support is needed more than ever. We are in a good position to offer support currently with over some amazing volunteers at drop in and many working behind the scenes offering help and support.
We will never be ‘full’ there will always be support for anyone affected by any cancer in our local area. We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to our new premises, hopefully mid October and having a space where we can be accessible during the week will make a huge difference to many.
If you would like to chat through some support or know of someone who is struggling with the impact of cancer please do drop me a note.
Wishing you a wonderful September love Mary.

3. Jackson PT
About me.
When I was approaching 40, some 13 years ago, I decided it was time to ‘get a grip’ I had always been reasonably slim and fit but I noticed that I was starting to put on weight and live an unhealthy lifestyle. I started training with two amazing Personal Trainers as well as looking at what I ate. Over a period of 8 months, I lost 1 ½ stone and completely changed my body profile. I have trained consistently ever since and love it, at 53 years old I am in the best shape I’ve ever been in and more importantly, healthy and with a much better relationship to food.
If I can do it anyone can.
No diets, no shortcuts, no wasted gym memberships, just a complete change in my outlook that has become sustainable, easy in fact.
I decided to make another change, this time with my career Level 3 Personal Trainer with nutrition.
I’m a member of CIMPSA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity)
I concentrate on functional strength building, whether that’s being able to sit cross legged on the floor with your grand-children, taken on a fun run from scratch or rehabilitation after illness and injury.
I work with clients in their homes or if they wish any location of their choice, i.e the beach or a park.
I love helping others, live their best life by training to be stronger, fitter and with a healthy relationship around food, no trying to attain ‘Instagram ready bodies’ just small changes that make big differences.
In other words…. Getting into the shape of your life – for life.
My Mission
To help others reach the same conclusions
No wasted gym memberships
No more yo yo dieting
No more self-loathing
Better health and energy levels and a better body image.
It’s not about the perfect body it’s about being the best you.
I want to understand the individual, what makes them tick and what they hope to achieve.

10. Poem – By Tim’s Sister
Earthly Angels
My brother met some Angels
Not the sort with wings and dresses
They helped along the path he trod
And smoothed the strains and stresses
Helped at the meeting places when everything got tough
Sharing, listening, crying laughing, helping through the rough
Ordinary people bound by cancers vicious cord
The strong help the faltering, giving lots of hope
The Angels help each other with the tools to cope.
Some Angels do not make it, not because they do not try
Those angels will be remembered, it’s never a goodbye
Thankyou all you Angels, continue helping others
But most of all I thank you for the help you gave
My Brother

14. Recommended App – https://www.oncio.org/
The Oncio app is the first free app available to adults affected by cancer that empowers you to practically put integrative oncology tools and strategies into action. It is designed to be used by people at any point in their cancer care pathway – from diagnosis through active treatment and survivorship to living well with cancer – as well as their carers.
The app content and functionality has been and will continue to be co-developed with the community of people impacted by cancer through lived experience or a carer role. Our aim is to empower you with an evidence-informed toolkit that is practical and easy to use and cuts through the noise of conflicting information of variable quality and relevance to you.
Integrative oncology (IO) is a patient-centred, evidence-informed field of cancer care that utilises nutrition, lifestyle, psycho-emotional wellbeing and complementary medicine interventions alongside conventional cancer treatments to support better quality of life, improve resilience, minimise the side effects of treatment and improve outcomes.
