Wonderful opening for ALCS.

It has been so lovely to welcome so many people to Cross Keys House over the last few weeks in various opening evenings. There is a warm atmosphere at our support group and drop-in’s on Mondays and we are seeing an increase in people accessing support  For those who are yet to have the opportunity to visit us,  we have a cafe style seating area, a therapist room, library/resource room, comfy chair area, a little snug in the corner, patio doors, a toilet, volunteers to make you tea/coffee and a little shop called ‘The Nook’ which is the start of a charity shop where you can purchase cards, books, puzzles, clothes and much more.

With Special Thanks for the grant funding received that made this possible. Screwfix, B&Q Neighbourly, Morrisons and Dalwood Raft Club.

Thank you to Jill & Roger Fisher who raised over £200 for ALCS with a charity soup and roll event earlier this month.

We have been lucky enough to be awarded a 6ft real Christmas tree by Homebase, as part of their Communi -trees campaign, for our premises.

We’ll be putting this up on Monday 4th December at Cross Keys House … there will be tags and ribbons available for you to come and write a Christmas wish and tie it to the tree when visiting.

3. New Therapist  Ann Redfearn BA(Hons) Lic Ac FEA MBAcC

I graduated from the College of Traditional Acupuncture in 2011, gaining an honours degree in addition to my License to Practice. I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council.

3. New Trustee Heather Sibley

The Trustees would like to welcome Heather Sibley as Chair of Trustees –

Heather has worked in a senior professional capacity in numerous businesses and organisations such as Price Waterhouse, IBM and BP Oil International during a 40 year career in London, Birmingham, Manchester and abroad.  Working in Procurement she has honed a strong capability to protect the quality of goods and services procured, maintaining a close watch on costs, enabling business strategy and driving organisations forwards; skills she hopes can contribute to the on-going success of ALCS.

Now retired she moved to the South West in 2021.  Heather developed ovarian cancer in 2022 so has recent experience of the disease but also the importance of what it means to receive local support.  She became an ALCS volunteer earlier in 2023 with a strong desire to help others.

The choir has recorded an original song titled ‘Golden’, written to reflect their experiences and raise awareness of the campaign and encourage more people to check their breasts, ultimately saving more lives.

The choir hopes to reach the top of the charts to get the message even further!

The song ‘Golden’ is available to pre-order now on major digital streaming platforms. Net proceeds from audio streams and downloads will be donated to Future Dreams Breast Cancer Charity.

6. Beach Hut

Do look out for beach hut last minute dates on Facebook and the ALCS WhatsApp group going forward. Please send a text or WhatsApp to 07512 279663 to be added if you are an existing client.

The booking system has been designed to give priority to those going through treatment or recently finished. The confirmation and information is sent within the Eventbrite ticket. You can also manage your booking by cancelling any dates you are no longer able to use.

7. ALCS Shop

If you are looking for individual cards, or a bespoke gift locally made please do consider our online shop.
Hopefully we have made it easier for you to purchase beautifully illustrated blank cards, recipe books, key rings and CDs – all the money raised goes directly to help our clients.

Just add your items to the basket and go to the checkout which is now using Stripe payments but Paypal is still an option. If you have any problems please do not hesitate to contact us for assistance.

Cards can be purchased at drop-in and local events or collection arranged.

We now have 6 cards that were designed by the late Dot Wood thank you to Ian Word for supplying the art work. It was Dots wish to have them printed.

Macmillan Cancer Treatment Induced Menopause: Case Study

Macmillan in the East & South of England is working with local Cancer support groups and The Menopause Charity to look at providing resources for women who experience Early Menopause as a result of Cancer treatments and how that journey, and beyond, can be improved. We would love to hear from women who have experience of this to inform how we take this work forward.
