We were awarded part of a grant from the company Fossil Films UK who filmed Ammonite in 2019.  The Lyme Regis Town Council, agreed that a lasting legacy for Mary Anning would be a beach hut to be used by local people affected by cancer.

The hut is located along the promenade, below the restaurant Swim and the Arcade. There are public toilets just behind the beach hut and at the other end of the beach huts is the café Kiosk and the room with the key safes in.

Information regarding your beach hut booking can be found on your booking confirmation and a reminder of this will be be issued prior to your booking via EventBrite.

In order to book the beach hut, you will need to be registered with ALCS and be issued a code. To register please complete our client registration form. Please note we prioritise booking for those who are newly diagnosed, those going through treatment and those with a secondary diagnosis or those who are recently bereaved.

The Story Of This Beach Hut

The idea for the provision of this beach hut came from a local lady and her family. After going through her own cancer treatment, they attended the funeral at Lyme Church of a family friend who had passed away following a battle with breast cancer. Whilst leaving the church they saw an information board about the famous fossil hunter Mary Anning and discovered that she too had died from breast cancer, with limited treatment and support.

They heard that Fossil Films – producers of the film ‘Ammonite’ (2020), which contained scenes shot in Lyme Regis about the story of Mary Anning’s life – had given the town a sum of money to go towards local causes, and thought a beach hut seemed a perfect idea. The Council agreed, and here it is. For those of you who have been through, are going through or have been affected by a battle against cancer, you are welcome to relax by the sea and enjoy your own little bit of Lyme.
