Newsletter No.21 – May 2020

We have now done 9 drop in’s via zoom and seem to be getting the hang of this new mode of communication. It is interesting chatting each week reflecting on our thoughts and pondering’s of lock down.
We are all looking forward to being able to have drop in’s at Lyme and Axminster again but may continue to do a zoom option as for some it may be preferred.
What the last few months has taught me is that the things I treasure the most are the simple things. After family and friends my garden, nature, the birds, cooking, sewing, knitting and doing puzzles all have given hours of joy. I have been having particular success with growing things from off cuts of our salad and vegetables…pictures here, fennel, celery, pak choi , garlic and ginger! I don’t think I am alone as the stories we are hearing are of lots of creativity, green fingers and generally slowing down.

Slowing down isn’t something that is easy without latest arrival…let me introduce Duke! He is 9 weeks old and an absolute delight, a mischief adventurer but a bundle of joy!

One aspect of our virtual drop ins has been to share creativity, poems, cooking ideas, art and photos. You can see a poem by Maggie below and a stunning photo by Nigel.

Sidney the Snail by Maggie Stead

There’s a little snail called Sidney,
He lives under my Rosemary bush.
He’s clean and tidy round his house,
But he simply will not rush.

He likes to nibble my parsley
Which is growing quite nearby,
And in circumstances very dire
He’s been known to eat a fly!!!

One morning when Sidney woke up
He knew something was wrong
It wasn’t a soft green light he saw
But shades of red with shadows long.

With great deliberation Sidney climbed to see what was there
And lying limp and rather wet
Was something humans wear he wiggled on the funny thing
Enjoying slithering about
His silver trail looked rather pretty
Of that there was no doubt.

Then Sidney heard another sound
He saw the Mistletoe thrush
So Sidney proved to all the world, when needed he could rush!!
