Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support
July  2024

Hello from Donna,

It is nearly August and in typical British style I am not sure what the weather is currently doing…. I hope you all have a lovely summer and have something to look forward to, whether that is sitting in the garden enjoying some sun, going away or seeing family.

I am pleased to see people coming to and benefitting from the support groups. It really helps to connect with people of similar ages/cancer/situations. We are starting to work on the 2025 calendar so please do let us know any suggestions of support, creative or activities via our survey by following this link: if you have not already done so last month.

The pop-up shop continues to grow. Thank you for the donations and to the volunteers who commit each month to continue making it a success.

We have our Open Day, AGM and Summer Draw coming up in early September so a reminder for your diary and to purchase your tickets (full information further down).

Also to make you aware Chard Street will be shut from 31st July – 6th August, pedestrian access only from town, if visiting by car please go via Stoney Lane and left at the roundabout to visit Cross Keys House.

.

Thank you – Jurassic Coast Choir £300.00

Thank you – “The Dorset Full Monties” – £975.00 Raised so far for the swim on 29th July

4 ordinary ladies, some of whom have delt with major health issues, are taking on the challenge of a lifetime. We will be swimming the channel at the end of July 2024 to raise money for our chosen charities. I have chosen Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support because, when my daughter was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 21 last year, they not only provided support for her, but also for the family. It is devastating to be told that you, or someone you love has cancer, and the support that I was given was invaluable. The swimming team decided on the name “The Dorset Full Monties” because, like the film, we don’t have much of a clue about what we’re doing, but WE WILL DO IT anyway! With our regular meeting and training we are becoming stronger and more determined all the time. It has proved to be a huge learning curve with all the organisation involved, but we were ready and willing to learn to achieve our dream. Swimming the channel for ALCS | Localgiving or Justgiving.
