Axminster and Lyme Cancer Support October 2024 Mary - This was a magical sunrise I…
Newsletter No.32 – April 2021
April has been filled with glorious sunny days, a cold wind and nature showing us there is joy to be had in the simple pleasures of seeing the blossom bursting in the hedgerow and the birds celebrating each morning.
Dawn chorus seems louder this year than ever before, but it may be me!
Many of us have had our first vaccines and some the second, it does seem to be very swiftly done in our region and for this I am sure everyone is extremely grateful.
As many of you know April was incredibly special for us as we were bowled over with happiness as we welcomed our first grandson. All the family are doing well and his first visit to the beach will be soon!
The pandemic continues to have a huge impact in our world and we are working hard to be able to continue to offer support as restrictions lift. We are aware that for many they are not ready to resume face to face events to we will be offering online support for many months yet.

Poem – Each Moment Is Precious by Pat A. Fleming
Live in the moment,
Just take it all in.
Pay attention to everything,
Right there and right then.
Don’t let your mind wander
To what’s coming next.
Cherish this moment
And give it your best.
Don’t let tomorrow
Make you rush through today,
Or too many great moments
Will just go to waste.
And the person you’re with,
In that moment you share,
Give them all of your focus;
Be totally there.
Laugh till it hurts,
Let the tears drop.
Fill up each moment
With all that you’ve got.
Don’t miss the details;
The lesson is there.
Don’t get complacent;
Stay sharp and aware.
It can take but a moment
To change your life’s path.
And once it ticks by,
There is no going back.
In just 60 seconds,
You may make a new friend.
Find your true love,
Or see a life start or end.
You become who you are
In those moments you live.
And the growth’s not in taking
But in how much you give.
Life is just moments,
So precious and few.
Whether valued or squandered,
It’s all up to you!

Bowel Cancer Awareness Month
Every 15 minutes someone is diagnosed with bowel cancer in the UK. It’s the second biggest cancer killer. But it shouldn’t be, as it’s treatable and curable, especially if diagnosed early. Nearly everyone survives bowel cancer if diagnosed at the earliest stage, however this drops significantly as the disease develops. Being aware of the key symptoms and visiting your GP if things don’t feel right can help increase chances of an early diagnosis, and could save your life. The symptoms of bowel cancer can include:
Bleeding from your bottom and/or blood in your poo
A persistent and unexplained change in bowel habit
Unexplained weight loss
Extreme tiredness for no obvious reason
A pain or lump in your tummy Most people with these symptoms don’t have bowel cancer.
Other health problems can cause similar symptoms, but if you have one or more of these, or if things just don’t feel right, see your GP. For more information visit bowelcanceruk.org.uk
Recommended Website
https://www.thegoodgrieftrust.org/ This was recommended by one of our therapists who is supporting someone trying to cope with a recent bereavement. It has a lot of useful, thoughtful and varied ideas as to how grief is such a personal experience for everyone and each person will go at their own pace. We are here to support and if you need help or know someone who has lost a loved one please do get in touch.
Dates for your diary
Weekly drop-in sessions – Mondays 2-3pm
We are currently holding our weekly drop-in sessions virtually via Zoom on Mondays 2-3pm. Please do message us for more information if you have not already joined in. Information is also posted weekly to clients. We also create an event via Facebook and you can contact us for the code direct should you wish to join us. Please make sure you use your name when logging in to zoom to allow us to recognise you and allow you onto the session.
We swap top tips, exchange some positive stories and support where we can. We also now have weekly slots to meet the therapist where they talk about the treatments they offer and how they offer it, so you have an insight and can ‘meet’ the person before you sign up.
Zoom is free to join, just download the app on any device. As with all of these platforms it is recommended to check the privacy settings and unsubscribe to advertising. This should be an option when you sign up if not at the bottom of the confirmation email.
